Waxing

Nicole is coming today for the weekend to visit! YAY!!! In preparation, Steph had her arms waxed again. They are so smooth. I took a picture of the waxing in progress.

Booie's Anniversary Present

I got Steph a lime green iPod Nano for our 6-year anniversary. Here it is, all wrapped up. I'm going to give it to her when we go out on Friday night to celebrate. She asked for it, so it's sort of anti-climatic, but it's the thought that counts. Her old iPod could only hold a charge for about 30 minutes and so she desperately needed a new one, but I knew she's never get it for herself.

Peonia

I wish I could say this flower came from my garden, but we bought some cut peonies from the Farmer's Market. This is one of them in an arrangement in the living room. We do have some peonies that we planted outside, but they haven't bloomed yet.

Skyline

Nashville skyline, taken from West End Avenue. I took this picture while at the Shell station where I get my gas and have the cars washed.

Fuschia

Yesterday at the farmer's market, we bought a hanging fuschia plant. It is so pretty. Our deck looks like a tropical oasis.

GHEE!

This post is for Alex. GHEE! This is a shelf at an Indian grocery store filled with Ghee. I'm not sure what Ghee is or what it's used for in Indian cooking, but it amuses me.

Traffic

Here I am in the car, stuck in traffic, by Vanderbilt on Friday afternoon. The traffic on 21st St. is always terrible in the afternoon. There is a ton of construction going on and it is quite frustrating.

New Frame

This is a Kathe Kollwitz etching that was my Mom's. Well, actually, my grandparents gave it to my Dad, but my Mom got it in the divorce. About 2 years ago, my Mom gave it to me. I really love this piece and I wanted to get it reframed. It was in bad shape and needed reframing badly. So I had a new matte and frame put on it; I was nervous to change it around, but I think it turned out well.

Nap time

French Fry taking a nap on the deck. Dogs get so much joy out of the smallest things. So cute.

Mojito

This evening when I came home, I made a mojito. It was delicious and a perfect drink for the warm weather we're having.

Plumgood

I got a coupon in the mail from Plumgood (www.plumgood.com), a organic grocery delivery service in Nashville. So this week, instead of going to the grocery store, we had our groceries delivered. It was strange. I put our order in online and the next morning, groceries appeared! Delivery was free and I don't think it was any more expensive than Wild Oats. It was certainly more convenient. I would do it again for certain things, but I like picking out produce myself.

Jonquils

My grandmother has the most gorgeous daffodils at her house. Some were in bloom when we visited. I love how she has so many different varieties.

"Save me", said the plant.

When we lived in Baltimore, our next-door-neighbor Jen gave me this awesome ginger plant. It was just a small baby when we gave it to me last Spring. She brought the original plant over from Hawaii (she lived there before moving to Baltimore). Basically, I could never replace this plant. Plus it has sentimental value to me because Jen is a great neighbor, mother, and friend; I admire her very much. Anyway, all our plants are currently living at my grandparents' house because we didn't have space for them on our move to Nashville. As of this writing, my ginger plant is not doing so well; it needs to be watered more frequently and is also rootbound and desperately needs repotting. I only hope it lives until I am able to bring it home with me.

Cute dessert glasses

Yes, we went back to Anthropologie. I just can't help myself. I was going to buy these adorable dessert glasses, but one of the sales ladies yelled at me for taking photographs. She was really bitchy about it (plus I think that's a dumb rule) and so I decided to leave without buying anything. I still love Anthropologie; I'm just never buying anything from the Baltimore store.

Passing the time

Here is my tray table on the flight to Baltimore. I had a tonic water because I read that it helps calm your stomach (I didn't want to have a repeat of my last flight to Baltimore). We tried to play travel Trivial Pursuit, but neither of us could concentrate enough to think that hard; I did a crossword puzzle and Steph played Sudoku instead.

Moo!

I was driving into Nashville earlier this evening and I saw these cows being transported on the highway. They looked so sad! I teared up a little bit, but my hormones are crazy today and that may be why. If you look closely in the photo, you can see a little cow face. I really shouldn't take pictures while driving 80mph, but too late now.

Tomorrow night we go back to Baltimore: an unexpected trip for the funeral of my friend's mother. It's a tragic situation and has really thrown me for a loop this week; it brings up all sorts of feelings about my Dad that I don't usually deal with (but probably should) and I've snapped at a great deal of people for no particular reason at all. I feel horrible about it.

Sad Hydrangea

The weather has been ridiculous. When we left Nashville last week, it was 80 degrees. When we came back home, it was in the 40s. There was some light frost overnight some nights and now our hydrangea is dead. It's so sad. I guess we'll have to dig it up and get another one. It's pathetic looking.

Tasty Drink

My Ketel One Appletini at Jackson's from Sunday night. Usually I don't like such sweet drinks, but I felt in the mood for some reason. I read in the Nashville Scene that Richard Marx had dinner at Jackson's last week. Why don't I ever see celebrities?

Rich White Trash

At Delaware I had this friend, Adam, who was a total asshole. I don't know why I even spent so many hours of my life listening to him pontificate. He thought he was just sooo intellectual. I guess it's to be expected that you'll have friends like that in college though. Anyway, one time he referenced some obscure baroque instrument and I asked him what it was. He was horrified at my ignorance and said that I was "rich white trash". He meant it jokingly, but still, it pissed me off.

This week, while visiting Baltimore, my grandfather asked if I had read an article in a New Yorker from last month. I said that I had let my subscription lapse and was not up to date on New Yorker articles. He proclaimed that I "moved down South and have become ignorant to current events in the world". While I know he didn't mean for his comment to upset me, my feelings were kind of hurt. This was the latest in a series of comments in a similar vein ("You're going to move to Tennessee and you'll be too busy playing the banjo to call us"). So today I renewed my subscription to the New Yorker and paid for a full two years.

Another photo from a shopping expedition, this one from Bluehouse in Fells Point. I think the outdoor rug second from the right would look great on our covered deck.

Thursday April 5, 2007

Display from Anthropologie in Towson Town Mall. I love EVERYTHING in this store. The kelly green flower pot coffee mugs: too cute. The glasses with tucans printed on them: adorable. Steph and I spent about an hour in this store oohing and ahhing over everything. Someone told us that they are opening up a shop in Nashville. YAY!!

Wednesday April 4, 2007

This is the fountain in The Evergreen. The Evergreen is a coffee shop in Roland Park (Baltimore). This fountain always makes me laugh because I think it looks...ahem...like a piece of female anatomy. Seriously, am I the only one who sees this?

Tuesday April 3, 2007

On Tuesday we had lunch with Alex and Nicole at Miss Shirley's. Here is a still life I created while we were dining. It consists of a Cadbury Creme Egg I gave to Alex, a stick of Orbit Lime Mojito gum, and a small copper tin from Williams-Sonoma in the shape of a pine cone (they tied it on the bow of Alex's birthday present).

Every year around Easter I try to like Cadbury Creme eggs, but they are just so nasty. I try though, I really do.

Sweet sweet drugs

Is this a snowman? No, it's Ativan! I always take it before getting on a plane; it makes me sleepy and helps calm me down enough to tolerate the flight. Pharmaceuticals are glorious. I don't know how I would survive if I didn't have a spouse that could just make happy drugs magically appear.

Sunday April 1, 2007

Here is our bag, all packed and ready to go to Baltimore tomorrow. We're going for Passover and just to visit with some friends and my Mom and grandparents. Monday we're flying into Dulles (the worst airport ever) in the evening and then my Mom is taking us out for Vietnamese food; Tuesday we are going to go to Hopkins and visit with our peeps during the day...have lunch with Nicole at Miss Shirley's...then we'll have Sedar with my grandparents; Wednesday during the day is up in the air...I kind of want to drive to Delaware, but we'll see how tired I am...Wednesday evening we're going to Mezze with Alex and Nicole; Thursday we're going to see the cherry blossoms in DC and then have dinner with Maggie and Scott at Sushi Sono in Columbia (best sushi ever). Friday morning we come back home.
