New Camera Lens

I got a sweet new lens this week for my DSLR, so I took some pictures of Winston to test it out. It is a Nikkor 50mm f1.8. I bought it from BHPHOTO, which is a fantastic online store. Mmmm...bokeh....

Enjoying the cool weather while it lasts...

Late Friday afternoon and early evening, we spent a good chunk of time just enjoying the deck. It was beautiful outside. Little did we know that a disgusting heat wave would strike on Saturday! Ugh, gross...it was 90 degrees. Only 4 more days, and then it's supposed to be back to the agreeable Spring weather I so enjoy.

Steph spent some time knitting and just enjoying the glory that is our yard. It's so peaceful out there. We even saw two bunnies! They were eating weeds, so I didn't shoo them away.

Images from our garden

I can't wait until I can use this basket to gather my fruits and veggies and cut flowers!

I am in the process of making a garden path border using glass bottles. It's turning out quite well! Yay for Freecycle, the source of most of the bottles I've used, as well as friends who have been willing to donate to my cause.

The humans are dead

We spent yet another lovely weekend in Philadelphia. On Saturday we went to the Tower Theater in Upper Darby to see the Flight of the Conchords.

They came out dressed as robots! It was a very funny concert. I do wish they had performed more songs from the first season of the show, as I have not yet seen most of the second season. They DID sing "Business Time" though, which is really the most important thing. Haha. If you aren't familiar with FOTC, check out some of their songs on YouTube. They are hilarious. You can also buy a DVD of the first season of the show, which aired on HBO.

Cat!

Gratuitous cat photo ahead...

I am still recovering from making a garden path out of 4 tons of rocks on Monday. It took us about 6 hours to complete that project. Dude, you wouldn't think it, but rocks are heavy.

In other news, I want to go to this. Steph has a long stretch of time off that week, so I don't see why we shouldn't be able to go. I just have to find somewhere decent to stay, I suppose.

Happy Passover, Easter, or whatever holiday you choose to celebrate this week! It is weird to not be going to a Sedar. My Dad was the king of sedars. My grandparents used to have a Sedar when I was growing up, but now it's too much trouble for them and not enough of the family live in town to make it worth the effort. Sad. I feel depressed when I think about my family, recently. We used to all live close together and celebrate major holidays and such, but now we are all spread out and no one really wants to go through the hassle of being the one to host events. I have such fond memories of the holidays as a child. As for Easter, I find it intriguing. I have only been to an Easter dinner once, and it was in college. I'll take any excuse I can get to eat lamb. If I had children, I would dress them up in adorable Easter outfits and arrange an egg hunt, but alas, I have cats instead and they are not amenable to playing dress up. Silly cats.

Spring has sprung!

Spring is here in full force. Every day I notice something new popping its tiny head out of the ground. The robins are feasting on worms in the backyard. The squirrels here are quite brazen. They come right up on the deck and chill out, even with the cats watching them from the windows. The hyacinths and daffodils are blooming. The flowering trees in the area have all begun to bloom. This year I am noticing a lot of early blooming saucer Magnolias. Yesterday we planted a Dogwood tree in the front yard. My veggie seedlings are doing well. The lettuce, radishes, and arugula are the biggest out in the beds, but the spinach has sprouted as well. Inside, my tomatoes and peppers are growing rapidly and I've started some annuals as well. Yesterday I planted some more veggies out in the beds. While planting yesterday, I noticed some asparagus! YUM!

Here are some photos of the Spring progress at the house.
