GiGi's Cupcakes

We FINALLY got a cupcake bakery in Nashville. It only took the city five years or so to come around to the trend I guess. Anyway, there is now a cupcake place called GiGi's Cupcakes over on 21st Ave. by Vanderbilt. I went in and bought an assortment or cupcakes earlier this week. The pink one is birthday cake, the ones with hearts are red velvet, and the ones with almonds are Bailey's. I tried the birthday cake (as you can see, I had already eaten one by the time this photo was taken), and the red velvet. Both were excellent. Mmm, cupcakes, my favorite.

Too bad cupcakes don't grow on us! Wouldn't that be maddeningly wonderful!

I am was sooo happy to finally get a cupcake shop on Nashville. I have been to Sprinkles- the original and also to Magnolia in NYC. Honestly, are we just happy that we finally have one? I have been there twice and the cupcakes are not that much better than a Walmart or Kroger cupcake! These are made from a box mix with cheap shortening icing! No real buttercream or even homemade cake!! Of course we all will go there just because we finally have gotten a cupcake shop. :)

maria,
You have no idea what in the world you are talking about the cupcakes are made from scratch and so is the frosting by the way!! If you had any culinary education you would know that though. You hurt small start up businesses when you talk trash that is not even true. Maybe you should stick to bloging about the things that you might actually know something about.:)

I agree with Maria about the cupcakes. It is fun to have a cupcake shop here in Nashville, but they are just mix made cupcakes with some heavy white icing. All of us will go there because a sweet sugar rush is always great. I am a professional chef with a culinary degree and a food writer. Don't get too mad, but these are just everyday cupcakes that are great- not fabulous. :)

BTW- went in yesterday for the red velvet and the cream cheese icing was the white bakery icing with the grocery store taste. Sorry! :(

You should try cuppycakes bakery and confections (delivery only). They are located in Spring Hill, TN, but deliver all over the Nashville area. If you want made from scratch and all butter buttercream, then their your bakery.

No, cuppycakes doesn't have a store! We can't walk in to taste and see all the pretty cupcakes so it ruins the entire thing! If I had to wait for an order I would just make it myself. That's the entire point of a cupcake shop! Gigi's is the place! There is nowhere else in town that I have had a cupcake that taste's like this. These are the first one's that do not have a fake after taste. I've already tried Kroger (bad), Whole Foods (bad), and Puffy Muffin (bad) they all have that after taste and Gigi's DOES NOT! She is the first smart person here who finally brought things up with the cupcake trend so give her all the credit-she deserves it!

FYI- I work at Gigi's and she makes everything from scratch. They only taste different because they are ALL NATURAL. She doesn't use lard or any of that gross stuff. Everyone's just used to tasting all of this boxed preservative crap that they don't know a real cupcake when they taste one.
