Veg Head Confession

I think this will surprise my readership, but I've been a quasi-vegetarian for about a month now. Basically, I eat no meat at home, but I will eat it sometimes when I go out (less and less though), or when I am at someone's house. However, I did make an exception the other day. My neighbor, Gary, shot a deer and so he has a TON of venison in his freezer. Venison lover that I am, I did take some off his hands. I am making an exception because he killed it himself...it wasn't bred to be killed, or processed by the horrible meat industry. Mmm, bambi burgers, so tasty. Burgers are what I miss most of all, so it worked out in my favor, I believe.

You must have read 'The Omnivore's Dilemma." It is really a compelling read. To be honest, after reading it, I've cut back on my beef intake. I'll eat turkey more often (I have no pity for those damn birds [the same goes for chicken]).
For me it is not so much my own caloric intake and health as it is more about how the corporate cows have caused so much pollution and damage.
I've also backed down on anything with high-fructose syrup. I guess I'm just an enlightened health nut fag now?

I did read TOD, but it was about 1.5 years ago. I suppose it takes me a while to learn. Haha. For me, I don't want to put crap in my body, and also I agree with you about all the pollution. It's definitely more about pollution and less about how the animals are treated-- which isn't to say I don't care about that, but rather, that I think poultry (at least) are rather idiotic

We ate venison most of the time when I was growing up, also pheasant, grouse and partridge. I come from a long line of hunters. I even had my own rifle. Wow that was a very long time ago! We only shot what we could eat. Sometimes we used bow and arrows.

Kathy,

You had your own rifle? Did you ever shoot anything?
